CMNL evolved from a partnership between Northcord Transport (Northcord International Ltd) and Creative Master. Northcord Transport was famed for the production of high quality books aimed at transport enthusiasts around the world. Although mainly showcasing buses in Hong Kong, the books also encompassed Hong Kong's trams and Aircraft and other bus operations worldwide.

CMNL brought together Northcord Transport's knowledge of the world's buses and the manufacturing expertise of Creative Master Limited. The company was created to manufacture bus models primarily, mainly in 1:76 scale. CMNL is famed for achieving a high degree of accuracy and detail. Such detail includes multi-coloured interiors, driver compartment detail and opening engine covers to reveal the intricately detailed engine.
